The Activist

What I loved about this process is that Geo helped to create a safe, respectful environment, which left the actors free to do their bravest, riskiest work. ...Most importantly, Geo is simply a great spirit to have in the room. Kind, funny, available, generous—he is a true theatre artist and I look forward to the day when we can work together again.

Geo is absolutely invaluable to have in the rehearsal room! He served as the Anti Racism & Implicit Bias consultant for a new play I directed and brought so much knowledge, kindness and compassion to the process. Having someone in the room whose sole job is Equity, diversity and Inclusion took a weight off of everyone’s shoulders. If anything arose, we knew Geo would manage it with openness and care.

Geo brings a warm and welcoming energy that’s also extremely grounded which steadies the room. I’ve seen him in nearly every conversation push the conversation deeper while also casting a wide net for input and perspectives. Although Geo speaks with authority he carries himself with great humility and keeps everyone else in the room more open to learn. I would absolutely work with Geo again and consider him a collaborator for life and near and dear friend.

Working with Geo as an Antiracism / Implicit Bias Consultant and Performer Advocate was an invaluable, enriching experience. As an actor, director, and teacher, Geo is uniquely aware of the real-world challenges actors and other theatre artists face when working in predominantly white institutions, and/or when working with sensitive or challenging material. In my work with Geo, he was able to actively make space for many different viewpoints and provide public and private support for actors, directors, producers, and administrators. He also offered thoughtful insights about season programming and production, which helped our company select shows that were the best fit for our mission and make a plan to produce them in an ethical, antiracist way. In addition to his extensive skills and experience, Geo is a warm and welcoming person and an absolute joy to collaborate with. In my work with him I felt encouraged, supported, and invited to grow and learn about new perspectives. I highly recommend collaborating with Geo as an Antiracism / Implicit Bias Consultant!

I met Geo as an Anti Racism & Implicit Bias consultant for River & Rail Theatre during several play readings and recommended his work for a small cast I was a part of for Barter Theatre. Geo’s work allowed the room to breathe. There was no topic left untouched that would be triggering to the environment that we hadn’t already set boundaries for together as a group. Also, Geo led us in working collectively to create rehearsal values that would set the tone for our time together. It was efficient, effective, and gave me the freedom to work both safely and bravely.
